Looks like you already had a connector hooked up for your tender, you could just plug your power outlet into that instead of adding another one from your fuse box. I use mine for the tender or I hook my power outlet into it and run the wire into my side bag with my phone charger to recharge it. It is already fused right off of the battery and you don't have to have the key on for it to have power.

Be careful when you plug it straight to the tender leads because
you risk running down the battery if you forget to unplug it.
The advantage of this mod is that it eliminates that risk. It will only provide power
when the IGN is ON or ACC.

If my cell phone kills my bike battery, something is wrong.
I was just pointing out a way to carry everything with you and still have an easy way to charge your phone without a permenant installation.

Anyway, great job on the step by step tutorial with photos.

The more ideas the better.
What works for me may work for another, and vice versa.
I was actually glad you pointed that out. Thanks.

Outstanding write-up. Nice little project.

With this, there's no key required and no hole cut into the fuse cover because an existing Battery Tender plug may be used. It is necessary to find a pocket to carry it in and I don't think it'll take an actual cigarette lighter.
You might consider drilling a hole and placing a rubber grommet to pass the wire through the fuse cover. You want to keep moisture out of those fuses as much as possible. Shrink tubing is the best thing since zip-ties. Not trying to be harsh, just my $.02. Definitely nice pics and write-up.

No doubt that's the easiest way to add 12 volt power. (by using existing tender lead)
But I posted this for those who might benefit in using a semi-permanent and safer way
(will not run down the battery once you turn your key OFF) to add a 12 volt outlet to your harley.
Remember that tender lead is constantly supplying power to whatever u plug into it.
Just a thought.

Gotta say nice write up,also agree with the fact that the socket is switchable. No power is no fun when you are miles from anywhere.

Oh the possibilities here are endless, I also imagine a heated seat for the boys up North. The obvious choice is power for GPS, but my first thought would be a fuzz buster!

PS if you can believe it the OL's day job is at a PR company!
