Default What exactly is a hugger?

Whats a hugger as known to HARLEY DAVIDSON motorcycles? is a BOBBER the same as a HUGGER???? Thanks in advance.

hugger is the name that was used for the "low" models. Instead of an 883low, it was an 883 hugger. I think that they switched over to the "low" in 05, but I could be wrong.

You're right. For my model year, 2002, there was a XLH883 and an XLH883 Hugger. The only difference between the two was a lowered rear suspension by like 2.5" (don't quote me on that). Everything else is exactly the same. The newer equivalent is the low model.

This is my 03 XLH883HUGGER

alittle lower to the ground and I think alittle fatter tire on the front.

My 2000 Hugger with Sport windshield, small two up seat/rack and original elk-horn bars which were also unique to the Hugger.

I have always heard that a hugger is called a hugger because since they are lower, the fender tends to "hug" the tire. You can accomplish this with struts as well, bringing the fender down close to the tire, but I have only heard that called a hugger fender...
