Default timer cover removal

I will be replacing the timer cover with a skull one and was wondering will there be any fluid that might leak out. Will I need to make sure the bike is level.

What year?

The 2004+ engine timing system uses the flywheel to determine engine speed timing, which is suppose to reduce engine complexity and enhancing calibration and spark delivery.

The traditional XL Evolution timing cover is retained for styling purposes, but is only 'cosmetic'.

Just pull it off and install a new cover. I used the "Flame Collection" timing cover to go along with the other Flame Collection goodies I added.

I did a 2003, It was pop riveted on. Dealer said if the replacement had horizontal holes then it is reriveted. if holes are vertical then it gets screwed on. This was for earlier than 04models.[&:]
