Default Springer front end questions............

Whats the difference between DNA, WL and other springer kits out there? Also what is the stem size I would need for a 1969 Sportster Frame?

Sort of on a budget on the forks and would like to keep it in the $400 - $500 range. Cheaper the better of course.

yours is 7/8" not 1". Rumor has it DNA springers are junk. Dont know first hand. I have a Paughco on my Dyna. Paughco knows there **** with springers. Not cheap though. Wl springer would be nice but good luck finding one on your budget that doesnt need rebuilt.

You can get a nice WL replica from JP Cycles or V-Twin. DNA's are ok. Great for the price but they take some tuning and a few mods here & there to make them actually pleasureable. Paughco's are also nice but spendy. You can also look for a late model springer fork. The neck size doesn't matter. They're all pretty much the same length and you can get 1" bearings for your neck.

But nothing is cooler than a vintage unit but are very expensive and are a crapshoot on if it's a good quality piece (depends on how it's been taken care of over the years)

Springer questions.....Does anyone know what stock length is? I have a guy who has a DNA and he did some measurements:
From top to bottom he got 33" Not sure where he got those numbers. from what to what.

I asked him for measurements from bottom triple to axle and he came back with 23"

Anyone know what DNA stock is and if this is under or over and how much?

Thanks

I wouldn't buy a used DNA. They're dirt cheap new and can be tweaked rather easily if they are abused.

Post some pics of this bike of yours that we've been answering so many questions about.

Paugho calls stock 27" used on std. sportsters, dyna,. They say to use -2" on lowered sportsters.
Now DNA:
BELOW IS A CHART OF SPRINGER SIZES AND SUGGESTED APPLICATIONS FROM THE MANUFACTURER:
APPROXIMATE DISTANCE FROM THE BOTTOM OF YOUR FRAME NECK TO CENTER LINE OF AXLE ON OUR STOCK SPRINGER IS 22 1/4"
IF YOUR STOCK FORK MEASURES:
19-21" YOU SHOULD USE THE 2" UNDER STOCK ASSEMBLY
21-23" YOU SHOULD USE THE STOCK 22" ASSEMBLY
23-25" YOU SHOULD USE THE 2" OVER STOCK ASSEMBLY
25-27" YOU SHOULD USE THE 4" OVER STOCK ASSEMBLY
I would say they take mesurements at different spots.

The guy selling it states it is brand new. I see them new for pretty cheap but if I can get it cheaper than that doesnt hurt either! lol

I was told do go with a -2 springer and was told the lowest which is -4 is 18" from bottom triple tree to axle so thats why Im a little confused on the stock length!

The bike I want to build it like seems to be really low profile which I like here are two pictures of the bikes. If I remember reading somewhere it uses a 18" fork from bottom triple to axle? As for my beater Ill take a snap shot later today and post it. Warning.....its not the best looking thing!
