I actually mounted my 7" to the visor (upside down) because it offered better fitment with my windshield.

Keep that option in mind Perk, if you find any fitment issues with the Batwing.

Looking forward to the pics.

could you have mounted the ring with the screw on the bottom? How was it for adjusting the light for lo/high beam?

No, it has to be mounted that way because of the rings retaining tab to the bucket. It could have been further modified but I didn't bother to do so.

I basically just re-notched the retaining ring so the headlight could be mounted right-side up. Otherwise the hi-beam would have been a problem. So yes, the bucket is upside down, but the headlight is right side up.

Is the mounting block permanently attached to the bucket? Would I be able to make a mount to take up some of the gap between the eyebrow and the light?

No, the block detaches from the bucket. A single bolt mounts it to the bucket. That black block in the pic above that's attached to the visor, is the block that mounts to the bucket. And yes, it can be shortend to make a closer fit. I later took 3/8 of that block to bring it closer as well.

95 sportster with a memphis shades batwing and 7" headlight... I made an extension bracket to lift the headlight uo enough to fit into the housing and clear the gauges.

If this was meant for me, I had to mount the light on the adapter I made and adjust it, then mount the batwing, then tighten everything down. One other note, to make everything work, I had to cut the batwing headlight cover inside the batwing to make everything fit. The biggest problem I had was working around the gauges... You have to get the light high enough to fit in the batwing, but if you raise it too high it hits the gauges... I had to drop the gauges so that I could see them under the batwing. If you're all still interested in what I did, I can post some pics. My apologies if I'm hijacking this thread.
