Default Pics of my wife's sportster

My wife decided a few months back that she didn't want to be a passenger anymore... so I told her that if she took a MSF class and got her license (she'd never rode a motorcycle before, but we both used to race mountain bikes, so I figured she could handle it), I'd buy her a bike of her own. I figured that would take a while. It did.... about two weeks

So, I found a pretty clean 2005 XL883 at a real good price. Less than 6K miles, a few extras... a nice bike. And she immediately wanted to make changes....

So, here it is with some bling, bars, new exhaust, new lepera seat, a tank from a 2004 custom, lower shocks...etc., etc! She picked all the stuff out herself... In retrospect, we should have started with a custom...which we tried to do... but we got such a good deal on this one that even with the extra stuff, it was still the best way to go. The only problem is that with the changes she made, it looks so much like my bike that people are gonna go..."aaawwww, how cute....your bikes match..!" and that's gonna make me hurl... but it's what she wanted...

In the next pic, it shows the standoffs I made to mount the speedo. They're rougly egg-shaped, if you were to remove the speedo bracked and look straight down at them. I made them out of some scrap aluminum I had laying around. There are two holes... one through and through that mounts the standoffs to the clamshell mounting holes (which is covered by the speedo bracket), and another next to it that is threaded and mounts the speedo bracket. Turned the way they are, it moves the speedo back a little, but it's at the stock height. From the seat, you see the speedo perfectly right above the handlebar. The chrome speedo bits came from debrix... super cheap but nice parts. The handlebars are cheapies too... and they work, but it took some doing. Internally wired, of course.

Sweet deal & nice scoot. Wish my wife would change her mind & do the same, but she hates bikes. Guess I'll stay solo - enjoy the new riding partner!
