Default Blue Smoke in traffic

Hi all,
I have an 07 Nightster that has a smoking problem.

If I sit idle in traffic for more than 2 minutes the bike gets super hot, and will start billowing blue smoke. It also makes an audible ticking sound when running.

I've had it to the HD dealership and they either couldn't reproduce it, or said it was nothing.

This doesn't seem normal to me. I have an RSD intake and tracker exhaust on it with a super tuner (all dealer installed).

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

I too have a smoking problem..but it has nothing to do with my bike

In all seriousness, from what I understand about ALL internal combustion motors is, if there is blue smoke coming from your exhaust, you are probably burning some oil somewhere. I could totally be way off and wrong here..

Usually its either rings or valve stem seals...valve stem seal leak will smoke when you start it mostly and rings smoke more while its running...so without looking further into it I'd say get some new rings and replace the valve stem seals while your in there just in case because they're super cheap.

This. If you're having blue tinted smoke you are burning oil.

Default Blue Smoke

BLUE SMOKE IS OIL BURNING!

You shouldn't be burning ANY oil! Sounds like the engine is running WAY to hot. You might need to retune the air/fuel mixture properly. Smoke and an audible tick when running hot can only lead to no good (engine destruction)!

Also, do you know how hot the engine has been getting?

I dunno if harley's suffer the same problem as most aluminum blocks, but if the temp climbed to high you may have warped the metal that may have broken the seal your rings would make.

Blue smoke is not to be ignored. Go to a competent mechanic. 07....how many miles on the machine? How long after the dealer did this work did this start?
