Default Oil cap issue

I just bought my first bike, 2007 1200c, about 2 months ago. My oil cap does not seat right when I push it back into place. Since It does not go in and conture correctly, an edge is exposed, and every time I get on my bike to ride, my leg catches it and pops the oil cap back out. I can't figure out how to make it seat properly and this isnt that big of a problem, but its annoying. Any advice?

Is it "off" by 90 degrees perhaps? Sometimes you just need to lightly turn it a few times until it gets seated in the correct grooves to screw in right. Kinda like putting a bolt in something, you have to turn it a few times to get it to catch the threads. Hope that helps and makes sense

If I turn it all the way till it stops, it doesn't line up. Just twist it back a little bit and it should line up.

I have put mine on 180 degrees worng and it will not seat right, but will go on. Just play with it and it will go on right.
