Attached to your bike
I have ridden my Nighty in everything from the 35mph bumper to bumper traffic of downtown LA, where i do a lot of lane splitting, to the 90mph bumper to bumper traffic of the commuter lane and i've gotten attached to it. Part of me wants to trade it in on a XR but part of me wants to hold on to it. Anyone understand my dilemna?

Yes I understand how you feel about your bike-I feel the same way about my XL50. IMO the XR is a joke and for the money you could get a real super sport bike like a ZX10R or GSXR1000. I say keep the Nighty and enjoy it and if you want a sport bike get a real one. When it comes to sport bikes the maine 4 metric brands are the only way to go.

Wow, you are rare indeed! I've only seen a small handful of ladies on Nightsters in "The OC".
Given that we live in the same general area I ride in the same conditions you do, and have test ridden an XR. I really like the XR, but in my view I don't think I'd want to commute on it every day (from your post it sounds like you commute on your Nighty) so it would primarily be a weekend bike. I consider my current bike to be more of an all around everyday bike due to its seat height and riding position (I recently installed mini-apes), plus it gives me something to tinker on which is something I would not be inclined to do with an XR. My bike won't carve up the Angeles Crest Highway like an XR would, but I ride with my 11-year old son much of the time so my needs are a bit different.

The XR,,more power,,true but also geared like the 883..
You really wanna ride 90 mph at 5,000 rpm's ???
think about that real hard.
Course a front sprocket change and a speedo reset
an yer back In business with Far better suspension and brakes.
And a VERY powerful engine.
Decisions Decisions,,what to do,
