Default Priming the oil pump?

hey I have a 79 ironhead and i just changed out my oil, I need to prime the pump but im getting a little confused with the GREAT clymer manual instructions...ha. So im suppose to unattach the sensor, unscrew the sensor element(i dont know what its actually called?) and let the oil drain out a little?

im all new to this so im just kinda wingin' it for everything ive done thus far..As far as priming the pump goes, if its not primed with that make the oil pressure light go all wacko on me? When the bike idles at lower speeds, or the rmps are just low in general(stop lights n stuff) the light will come on, and flicker. When im at normal riding speeds the light turns off.

It is very possible that the oil pressure switch is bad or it was replaced with the wrong switch at some time. Best thing to do would be to remove the switch and put a pressure guage in it's place to check your oil pressure.
