The bear riding the tricycle was always my favorite part of the circus.

Default I am the bear, on tricycle

70 inches 320 lbs of fluff
02 sporty 883 XL fw controls screamin eagle everything
20 lbs backpack on sissybar
I can go as fast as I want to, during the 110 mile round trip to work an back.

get 48 MPG ( small tank is only bummer , so far )

never at any time did I ever think I would own a Harley of any kind.
BUT such a great deal came along with only 5300 miles I couldn't pass up.

I build large yellow earthmovers, and the Harley is made by the same UNION I belong to so it was a dream come true.

I say, ride it enjoy it. build up the wife's confidence then go bigger or not.

There is plenty of used Harley's out there with so few miles , after the owners found out riding was not for them.. Just an excuse to buy the WEAR.

good luck

The GVWR for an Iron 883 is 950#. The dry weight is 565#. So, the max payload is 385#. You're fine at 265.

Sportsters are not little, sorry. Try riding a litre-class crotch rocket sometime. Those are little. Modern Sportsters are BIGGER than WLAs, and those were very large bikes. Sportsters also have bigger engines and more horsepower and torque. Even compared to modern machinery, Sportsters are larger than most of the motorcycles ridden anywhere in the world. It's only in the US that we have such a distorted perception of what makes a "large" motorcycle.

I would love to hear from the OP. Youve had plenty of time to decide if you like it or not. I stumbled on this post now I'm curious as to the outcome.
My wife and I regularly ride 2 up on our 2012 883L mini bagger on trips. Our longest was 883 miles last summer. Ya I know 883 really ,, True it is. Had a blast, did a RT 66 tour.

I know this guy sold his sporty years ago but my on the road experience tells me 99% of all harley riders hike up pants two sizes too small, puff the chest out and inform everyone about that low end grunt they have. Not true. I rode with a 1200 owner a lot in '12-'13, he was in 5th at 40 all the time, I would be in 3rd at that speed. A roll on to 100 and the 883 will smoke the **** out of all that low end grunt every time.

As to the OPs old *** question, the sticker on my frame says GVWR is 1000 pounds. All anyone has to do is look at the frame sticker. Keep the 883 (and 1200 at that) in the power band rpm at cruise and the ride will be smooth vibe free with best mpg and performance. Leave the luggers in your exhaust fumes and they will all accuse you of throwing an 883 badge on a larger engine bike.

Starting in 07 with EFI Harley started putting the 1200 cams in the 883 and it gave it a good bump in power, you will notice it if you ride a pre EFI bike then jump on an EFI 883.
