I need to find out what kind of noises are just Harley noise? Only was 4000 miles on it I have had the dealer check it out they said it was the primary chain they took care of that but I have a noise that sounds like it from the top of the motor like lifters or push rods ticking. It has not went boom.

 

The "sewing machine" sound from the top end is a trademark of this Evolution engine. Any extreme clicking or popping should be investigated. The valvetrain is noisy, but not obnoxiously so.

 

I've been having the same sound come from my engine. Good to know that it's one of the "trademarks" of the Evo engine and not a sign that my engine is about to blow

 

In another recent post on a sililar subject, a poster noted that the top end noises are louder with a windshield, and sure enough, on my 09 XL883C, it definitely is. But it's normal for these engines.

And with a full face helmet, I can't hear any sewing machine clicks or clacks at all, windshield no not.

All in all, the bike is a seriously fine machine.

 

Sportie engines are very noisy. Rattling top ends are perfectly normal so don't worry just ride!

 

Cams and Head work will make that noise go away.

 

I find that I like my 883L very much I am new to the H.D. world I would not know to say sew machine noise that hit the nail on the head.
