Probably just needs the carb cleaned. Get some seafoam. Drain the bowl, fill it with the seafoam, let it sit for a day or so. Then drain the seafoam. If that doesn't work you will need to take the carb off and rebuild it.

Your filter in in the tank on the end of the petcock. If your carb needs clean just cleaning the bowl with seafoam is a waste of time. You would need to clean the jets. Take the bowl off, take the slow jet and main jet out. They just unscrew. Spray them with carb cleaner blow them dry with compressed air. You should be able to see through them. The holes should be open clean and round.

Default 87 1200 carb problem

the filter screen on the petcock is next, took hole carb apart cleaned everything, the carb seemed spotless, put it back on and no fuel, took the fuel line off carb and tank blew through line and it seemed like it was pluged then it was easy to blow through, turned fuel on and no fuel, hooked everything up charged battery ,hit starter button started and went to hit the gas and it bogged down and almost stalled,it would run until i hit the gas and bogged down like it was starving for gas,gas is going to the carb but it doesnt seem like enough, thanks

Hi randy, I used to live in Newport, NY.

Try starting the bike with your gas cap off to make sure the tank is venting.

Might be a good Idea to remove the petcock and visually inspect it, I would also drain the fuel out of the tank and see if its full of crap.

Did you check the float for a hole? Adjust the float level? Does it by chance have a later petcock with a vacuum port? Your 87 should have a accelerator pump . shoots gas through the carb when you give it gas. is the pump working? could have a hole in it . take the line off the carb with the fuel on it should run out the hose. if not petcocks plugged.

Thats your accelerator pump, get a new diaphragm for it, plus you mat need a new O-ring for it it it has one. Get a new rubber boot for it to if you think you need one.

the parts for it are cheap enough.
