Default Is my ride considered high mileage?

In addition to my 2009 Iron, I also own a 2004 1200 Custom that I bought with 28k miles on it. It now has 30k miles on it. It looked near new when I bought it - I like shiny things, lol!

My question is, what is considered high mileage for my model/year? I know it has been taken good care of and I have the full service history. I will also carry out regular oil changes (every 2.5k miles) and pay for recommended scheduled servicing. When I bought the bike, the dealer was confident and provided a full 1 year extended warranty.

So, knowing all this, what is considered high, "over the hill" mileage for HD Sporty 1200 Customs? Is there a rule of thumb when you "don't touch a bike if it has xxx mileage" or when do you expect to get all the aged problems or when do you trade/sell/stop riding/put away into personal museum?

Thanks for help!

Most people would say 12,000 a year is average. I usually go over that though. To be honest I don't know if this holds true for Sporty's though.

I have been hearing that the miles as long as they are below 40k really don't value the bike that much. It is more of the condition of the bike and age. That is why when you look it up on Kelly Blue Book they don not ask for mileage?

To me, if I'm looking for a bike to buy, I'm snatching up your '04 with 30K miles quicker than an '04 with 300 miles. Just ride it and don't worry. Plus there's a lot of variables.....Like if the owner worked 70 hours a week in the north, or if it was owned by some retired guy who just rode the snot out of it.

Depends...if you like to ride a lot then 28K for a 7 year old bike is low. If you like to pose and trailer your bike everywhere and put 1K miles in a year, then it's time to rebuild the engine.

This is just another reason to chop up the price. HD's ride for average of 70 years, it aint going away unless you do something really stupid, buy and ride, with upgrades!

Many bikes of all brands do very low annual mileages, but then some of them get well used. Worry about the mileage if and when you decide to sell, but for now it's your bike, so ride it and enjoy it.
