I'm looking at buying a DNA 4 over springer front end for a sporster(2003). Have any of you guys used a Dna front end ? Do you know of any surpris's I will experance making the switch?

Agreed here. The word on the street is DNA's are crappy builds.

 

I've always heard mixed reviews on them. In fact I've found the majority of people who have proclaimed them as junk have never owned one, while a majority of those who own them say they aren't bad for the price.

If I'm not mistaken you'll run into an issue with one of the springer legs contacting the frame when turning. I've seen a few people notch the frame to correct this. From what I gather a DNA springer won't just bolt on.

If you're looking for a bolt on option Paughco makes one but it's pricey at about $2200. Also LedSled is now building springers that will work with Sportster frames that run about $1200.

 

And that word on the street may or may not be true, but if they truly were good quality...

my friend put a DNA on his bobber XS650 and only has 200 miles on it and all the powdercoating is pealing off already. They didnt do a very good prep job before coating them. You do get what you pay for I think. The top springs clatter pretty good while riding also. I rode his for 30 miles or so and it did ride halfway decent though. Didnt bounce near as bad as I thought it would.

 

DNA's are ok. I have a few. On a 2003 it'll fit right on but you may have tank clearance issues. 4 over? That's alot. I usually run a 4 under on a Sportster.

 

If U dont mind explaining the difference between the 4 over vrs the 4 under. Thanks for sharing your knowledge . I'm not new to bikes ,but I'm new to doing Harleys

 

The difference is 8". A stock length MODERN springer is still a bit longer than a stock Sportster front end. 4 over will be 4" longer yet. 2 under for a close-to-stock height and 4 under for one that is essentially lowered a little bit (as many are...like yours seems to be). But all springer companies have their own version of stock length and under/over. The best way is to measure from the bottom of the neck stem to the center of the axle and go by that to make sure you get exactly what you want.

I'm looking at going with the black -4" for my Iron. I like how they state that it's "NOT DNA" in the description, guess that parallels the reviews here.
