Default Improving the Willie G. Skull Gas Cap!!!

Okay so from what I can tell a lot of you have suffered through the disappointment of the Willie G. Skull Gas Cap. Because I liked the look of it so much I decided to fix its crappyness instead of returning it. Below are the steps and photos I took to make this improvement:

Disassemble the gas cap entirely:

NOW THROW AWAY THE SMALL 0.5" COIL SPRING! THIS IS JUNK!

Plug the position lock channel up so the cap cannot twist around as much. I used a paper towel.

Place the circular spring inside the top of the gas cap screw.

Put the plastic position lock in place. Make sure to push it all of the way down on top of the circular spring.

Add the silver ring around the cap screw so that it stays on upside down.

Push the cap screw assembly into the cap as hard as you can!

Put the gas cap back into the bike!

Now enjoy your Willie G. Skull Gas Cap! It won't twist around as freely as it did before and it certainly doesn't fall apart as easily as it did before!

You may have just gotten a good one. Mine fell apart when I opened the packaging. A lot of people complain about how it just falls to pieces and spins around like crazy on the bike.

Yeah I couldn't stand it looking at me when I get on the bike and looking at the handlebars when I get off of it!

Only thing I have noticed is on two occasions in 350 mi. it had, I guess, unscrewed about 1/4 - 1/2 turn. As long as that's all the further it goes and doesn't fall apart, I'm good with it. I didn't know I could take it apart or I would have powder coated it.

I haven't had it long enough to see how it behaves after extended use but just from the feel of it now I'm much more comfortable with it there. It only turns about 20-30 degrees instead of the 290 it can turn out of the factory.
