When we are out traveling we will go around 150-175 and have went as far as 225 on a tank, around town it gets filled at around 150.

 

Iv'e got the Iron, I haven't had the surge problem. But the light some times comes on early. Now it comes on around 90. I have a little over 2000 on her now and get 50 to 55 mpg. I've pushed it to 140 before getting gas, but usually fill up at less than 100. I love the look of the small tank but it sucks getting gas all the time.

 

50-55mpg is what we get too and with the 4.5 gal tank she can run me out on my Heritage easy.

 

I've read all ten pages of this post with great interest because my wife's 2009 Iron is experiencing similar issues..
Firstly, her gas light is coming on around 55-65 miles and she WILL run out at approx. 100 miles on a full tank.
Secondly, she is having complete shut off/surges while riding that for the life of me, I can NOT duplicate when I ride. It's extremely frustrating. I've suspected her of accidently hitting/bumping her kill switch - just going by the way she describes the actions - but she swears that's not the case.

 

Thread helped me a lot in understanding a lot of possibilities. I got a used 2011 883 Superlow with just 200 miles on it. Same issue i get the low fuel indicator with only 80-90 miles put on it. I am going to be safe enough to fill it up around 120. Need to check the mpg yet though.
