Planning a long trip over my spring break in March and I was wondering about how people ride in a day?

One way will probably straight riding for time, interstate all the way. The way back will probably be a mix of riding for time and taking some back roads.

 

Longest I ever did in 1 day was 800 miles. Now... I do zero for the most part.

 

I find that I can comfortably ride 400 miles in a day on my 1200 Roadster with Brawler solo seat. I stop every 75-100 miles to rest, stretch, and refuel. Since I'm 63 yo, some of the young guns can probably ride much further.

A comfy seat is a must! ...even with a mustang seat I don't understand how some riders can ride for so long. The wind on my chest tires me out rather quickly on the freeway...and if I have a headwind forget it! ...maybe I just need to ride more.

 

The most I ride is 1,250 miles in one day it 18 hours coming from sturgis to Los angeles, that was last year 2011 when I did my second iron butt certification. But normally around 700 miles, now with my FLHTK 2011 it's must better compare to my ultra 2007 due to the better frame and no wobble

 

Mike, I used to have that same problem until I installed the National Cycle Flyscreen which takes most of the wind off the chest. At speed, the wind hits me at the shoulder joints and the nose which is OK because I wear a full-face helmet. There is very little buffeting.

 

In the Spring I plan on doing a 465 mile trip. I've upgraded my suspension, seat and added a cruise bar. I also have a windshield for the highway, for me that is a necessity. If it isn't comfortable on this trip I'll be buying a bigger bike in 2013.

I made some shorter trips last year before upgrading comfort items and it was a bit of a chore.

 

I'm calling total bullshit on this. No way you did 1,250 miles in one day you liar.

 

The most I've done in one stretch was 700 miles, all interstate, at night. With my set up on my bike, I am comfortable doing 400 a day and then calling it quits until the next day.

 

400-450 is a long day, did 680 once and we was worn out.
