Default How bad was pre 2004 vibration??

I want to get a sportster (have been a sportbike guy up to this point), but have limited funds, and dont know whether to consider pre 2004 sportsters. I assume the 883s were worse than the 1200s, as they probably had to rev higher with the smaller bore?

Were the vibrations really not that bad, and just made to seem worse by the press, or was the rubber mounted engine a real revolution and worth the premuim?

Thanks for your time.

Dave

I have an '02, and it doesn't seem to vibrate at all to me. Rides like a Harley.

I'm not sure about the older models but the way they're set up now is the 883s rev to 5500 and the 1200s rev to 7000. I have a rubber mounted though so I won't be of much help.

I had a honda 250 that vibrated worse than my bike. They're not bad at all. The handlebars should be rubber mounted, which is most of the complaint from the older ones.

I just picked up an 03 883 and the vibration seems less noticeable than my girlfriends 09 250 rebel, except at idle.
