Sportster XL50 # 1614 12/06
I have # 1614 Vivid Black 12/06 build. Location Halls Head in Western Australia. Picked up the bike @ 63 kms (only ridden to the car dealers to trade in) was an unwanted raffle prize and got it for a bargain. Still in original great condition, all original parts, done 20K on the road. Great all rounder, it will always be in the family.

#1734 Puchased New 2/17/2007
#1734 Black Purchased from Owens Harley-Davidson, Yakima WA. Currently in Marysville WA.
A cool story about my purchase. I was going to purchase a new Sportster in 2006 and had the cash. My wife, a ceramic artist, wanted to go to a workshop in Italy. I let her use my Harley fund for her trip and moved my purchase out to 2007. At that point, in early 2006, a friend at work mentioned that the XL-50 would be released to commemorate the 50th Anniversary so I simply decide that "fate" meant for me to have one. Went to Owens a couple of months later to pre-order the motorcycle for delivery on my birthday, April 1, 2007 (yes, born on "All Fools Day"). When I walked in I talked with Marv, the salesman, and he checked his computer but all of the XL-50's were "gone" and couldn't be ordered but......
He said, "We just got one in on Monday and it just hit the floor today." I asked if he'd take $1,000 down and hold it until my birthday. Of course he said yes and we filled out the paper work. Over the next few months I'd drop in, contribute another thousand or so to the purchase price, and waited for my birthday. I didn't make it that long.
On Saturday Feb 17, 2007 the sun was out and the temperature hit 70F. I made a run down to Owens to drop off another payment as well as the loan paperwork for the few thousand I'd still owe slightly over a month from then when my birthday arrived. I just got home, the phone was ringing, and a friend pulled up outside on his Harley. Getting the phone and the door at the same time the dealer was calling to inform me my loan was approved and I could pick up the XL-50 anytime. I asked my friend to go with me to pick it up and drive my car back home and that was that. We went riding that day (only to have winter set back in within a day or so).
I've been riding it since then and I love this motorcycle. It is perfect for all of my riding needs from long road trips to local riding. I have replaced the original seat with a Sundowner for more comfort but more importantly because I would have worn out the original seat. Added a removeable windshield and sissy bar/luggage rack for road trips. Refused to put bags on it as that detracts from the style. In all of my riding I've only encountered one other rider on an XL-50.
