Angry Crashed Nightster, Suggestions????

Hey guys I'm brand new to the site but have been riding for several years..Several nights ago I was riding home from work and almost hit a raccoon doing about 50mph. I recently put on forward controls and must have hit the back brake a little too hard bcuz next thing i know I'm on the ground watching my bike slide down the road. A few bruised ribs and several percecets later, I have assessed the damage and it appears all that was damaged was my left tail light (annihalated), my left clutch lever and my shifter arm on my forward controls (shifter peg and top of arm snapped off). I don't want to go to the stealer to get ripped off but i dont know what other options i have for these parts and $70 estimate? Does the dealer sell just the shifter arm for the forward controls or do I have to buy the entire kit again??

Thanks for your help guys!

You might want to have the dealer do a full once over of the bike. You may have tweaked or weakened the frame or forks that could make it dangerous to ride. JMO though.

For the parts, do some searches on E-bay and your parts will most likely show up cheaper than dealer.

Thanks wahlum, good advice. I'm hoping the dealer lets me order the shifter arm only and not have to get the entire $400 forward control kit.

Lol, I highly doubt you need a new frame...but I agree with having it checked out.

Glad you're OK & seems like the bike fared well too. Sounds like a minor skid w/cosmetic damage so agree w/eBay or online part search & fix the things that are damaged. Cycles can take a beating & next time, unless it's a moose, run over those small critters.

Glad you're ok. Not sure how long you've been riding, but I tell my son all the time to get in a habit of using both brakes all the time so that when you are in an emergency situation it is second nature. To avoid exactly what happened to you. I don't think your accident would've happened if your front brake was under heavy load. (even if the rear locked up)
