No horn or left turnsignal - Help please
2007 1200N Nightster
I’m having some electrical trouble and I’m hoping someone can help me figure out. Riding down the freeway today I noticed that my left turn signal wasn’t working. Right one works fine, and running lights in all four corners work fine. Figured it was a bulb, so I swapped both front and rear left bulbs, but the problem persisted. Ok, maybe a fuse? I replaced the 15 amp accessory fuse, still no luck.
Getting a bit confused, I tried my horn (also on the left side controls). Nothing! The headlight high/low beam switch DOES however work. Everything else on the bike works fine, just no horn or left turn signal.
I am at a loss now. I haven’t changed anything to instigate a failure of this sort. I pulled the left side switch housing and everything looks good. Wires aren’t twisted or crimped. I lifted the tank and all connectors look good. It occurred to me that my TSM may be bad, but I’m not seeing how that would affect the horn.
Any suggestions about where to next troubleshoot this problem?
Thank you!

i changed my horn and the connections were not wrapped well... shorted out on the road which blew the fuse for the brake light and turn signals (all of them)- since you have checked the fuse and you have one side turn signals, you know your problem isnt the fuse... i would think that if you had a short on the left side, it would blow the fuse. electrical stuff is the most difficult to troubleshoot. sounds like its time to take it to the dealer to me-

So, I double checked all plugs under the tank and everything looks good. I also hooked up a meter to the horn, power on 1.5 volts constant. Pushing the horn button, the voltage jumps to 11.9. If I'm interpreting this correctly, that tells me my horn switch is working. I did the same thing down at the turn signal module, input side of the harness. 1.5 volts constant on the left turn signal, 11.7 with the button pushed. Output side, zero constant, zero with button push.
Again, I am not understanding what the TSM has to do with the horn...

Just wanted to offer a quick update - I did some research in my service manual's wiring diagrams and found the only common wire between the horn and turn signal is orange/white. So, I used my multimeter found the area where the resistance along the orange/white path went infinite. Turns out, under the sheath where the HD service department extended the control wires (for mini ape instillation), the orange white wire was rotten to the core. A couple of the other wires were even about to go! Glad I found the problem, should be an easy fix from here.
