If it's a stock system he probably can't hear it. lol
I meant stock after market. With some you can change, add or remove baffels. I'm thinking of adding one to my black out, or I was. I left it idling in the drive and walked about 1/2 a block down. Now I know what it sounds like to the neighbors. Sounds good to me. Not as loud as sitting on it but nice and deep.
You should find a place with a lot of bikes and listen to them pull in. When you hear the sound you like go see what it is. Ask the owner if its stock or modified.
First thing I did with my 96" Heritage was to slip on a pair of RINEHARTS. Nice and loud, for me, but tone could be better, for me. I like them, a lot. Best idea, I think, is to sit on H-D dealer's porch and listen to incoming bikes. Nothing like actual sound. Each application results in diferent sound. I wouldn't ask big, fat, ugly, bush head guy 'or' gal to ride their stuff but they just might share info about their equipment.
I have a set of v&h straightshot slip ons that I'll sell to you for cheap if you're interested. They sound great IMO.
I have these on my '08 1200. Using the standard baffles or the "quiet" baffles, some extra packing from V & H and some safety wire you can come up with literally any sound you want. Did some experimenting with mine for about a week till I got the sound just right (for me). My thread is around here somewhere, it explains what I did - sorry didn't take pics.
I lucked out and found a set of slip on Python 3's used from a local rider on Criagslist. I didn't get the chance to hear them beforehand but I found they sound a lot like the V&H.
I bought Cycle Shacks as a cheap temporary slip on option in 06. I've changed MANY things on the bike since then, but the Cycle Shacks will not be changed. Almost 80,000 miles on Cycle Shack mufflers. They still look and sound great. I wish I could find a set of pipes for my Ultra Classic that has as good of a sound.
