Awww you little lucky sonofa- er, Maui is nice this time of year....... Actually, it's nice EVERY time of year! Been there twice, would drop absolutely everything for the chance to go again...

But, Maui is probably the BEST choice for a rusting process... You got sea air/water, and it's a tropical paradise!! Also, the PERFECT weather!

I'm gonna throw my vote in for Clear, because clear is gonna seal the paint, where Boeshield is gonna just leave it oily, and attract dirt. Worse, washing said dirty oil off...

Adam - Interesting treatment. Did you have a pro coat it?

I think the plan will be to strip 'em, reinstall everything and keep an eye on them while I talk to a few of the paint guys here.

I've just got to get the horrible "FORTY EIGHT" off the tank.

I have used aircraft stripper that I bought at Walmart, just spray it on and leave it out in the sun. I've used it on my cars and the paint and primer would just blister up and peal right off leaving just a few flakes that I flaked off with my fingernails. It should work.

IMO the 48 logo is not all that bad, but also not the best. I like the raw steel look and if done right looks killer. Don one better and do the turned metal look, you know like the old Trans Am's dash's had.

warning to using Aircraft stripper / jasco on the new harley tanks. It did NOT work for me, the factory put some bullshit chemicals and like 20 layers of clear on the tank, I went through a whole bottle of jasco and while it did Somewhat work, I barely got past the outer shell. I ended up just buying a rotary sander for 39 bucks and it took about 30 mins.

Aircraft stripper aerosol didn't do **** to my olive denim fender. I vote rock it out bare / raw and see how it goes. Many seem to have luck with that. If it starts to get to be too much work or whatever, not much work involved in resurfacing and having it cleared.

Apparently the brush on version of AC stripper is more effective. I might try some to get the job started, but either way I'm going to get in there with a DA sander. How fun can it be if power tools aren't involved!
