my wife's project bike got a little love last night
remember her slow-going hardtail?

She's been seeing me working on a few different springers for my Ironhead and said she wants one for hers now...and that kind of sucks because that one has the 130/90-16 in the stock narrow glide front end. And, she wants to use the same wheel, which also kind of sucks because that wheel has the "custom" Buchanan spokes.
So I picked this up

Obviously has seen better days but for being 75 yrs old it's a solid start. I took it apart to see what I could use and this is what I ended up with

You can see that all 4 legs are tweaked. I spent a whole night a while back squaring this thing up and smoothing out the pitted legs. New springs, bushings, rockers. Even welded the eyes in the legs & redrilled them because they were egg shaped.
[IMG][/IMG]
And then it was too short! I had to order different springs to get the length correct but everything ended up perfect.
Our air conditioning went out and the service guy can't come until today. Waiting on him right now, actually. She was hot, couldn't sleep so she wanted to do some work to her bike. Sounded like alot more fun than cleaning the garage.
We went to the storage building to pick it up

We decided to install that springer I reworked for her a while back. At first I was disappointed about the springer deal with this bike because it has the "special" wheel and shaved lowers to fit a 130 tire in the narrow glide...but, I'm a springer guy and she wants one so she gets one. I guess it wouldn't really have mattered if I was a springer guy or not lol. She didn't want any pics taken of her (hot, sweaty...girl stuff) but she took some of me preparing her bike for it.

It was cool showing her all of the little things it takes to mock things up. Spacers, setting fall away & things of the like. It went on without a hitch but she wanted to keep the bars she already had and I don't have any riser adapter studs.
I started with these cheap shorties
[IMG][/IMG]
drilled the threads out and drilled one end 1/2" deep @ 5/8" to counter sink regular bolts

I need to find or make a proper crown nut but the short one I had worked for now.
Some early morning outside pics

I think she had a good time because everything went pretty fast and I'm getting better at not over explaining things so I didn't bore her to death.
She digs it, I dig it and now I'm working on a list of things to complete the bike. It'll still take a while since she doesn't come out very often but it's a good feeling none the less.
