Smile Installed My American Custom Exhaust On My 883

I received my american custom exhaust today for my 2012 Iron 883. The pipes came well packaged and protected in layers of bubble wrap.

It took me about 45 minutes to remove my stock exhaust. I was starting to think they would never come off. It took about 10 minutes or so to install the new exhaust pipes.

I made sure everything was tight and wiped down and then I hit the start button. All I can say is WOW!!! The sound is thunderous (with the growler baffles) but not obnoxious. Sounds a ton better than stock. I even heard a hint of the famous potato sound.

I then took the bike out for a spin and noticed a great improvement in torque and speed over the stock pipes. I could feel the torque right away. I could also go deeper (higher RPM) into each gear.

Since the baffles are removable and american custom uses the exact same bullet exhaust as the stock ones, I am going to remove those baffles and install the thunder torques from DK Custom Products.

I will then be doing a seat of the pants review of both exhaust set-ups and will post which ones I like better. Mind you, it is just my opinion in the review.

DK Custom nor American Custom has paid me or offered me anything in return. I do not work for them nor do I know anyone at either business.

Updates in about 2 weeks with video.

I will keep you posted...Matt

I was just curious, didn't you have to recalibrate(reflash?) the fuel system with the new pipes? Or does the EFI just adapt to the better airflow?

Actually no I didn't need to. I forgot to mention that I installed x14ied's from nightrider.com. I also have an ac kit from dkcustom as well. So with the ac kit, the bike breathes easier. With the exhaust the bike sounds better and has more power and torque.. The x14ied's hook into the o2 sensors and tell the system that the bike is running lean so the system runs richer. Hence no reflash needed.

I rode the bike to work tonight and can tell you so far I am impressed with the american custom exhaust. In a few days I will install the thunder torques and see how the bike feels.
