Default Ignition module location?

2005 Harley Davidson 883.

The service manual shows ignition module to be above the oil tank.

However, I found that the location of it is here:

Which location is correct? I know the service manual shows the right position but then what is in the place of the module in the pic below? What I am saying is if the Ignition module location was changed from the engine to the seat, then is there anything in the previous location? Or both location can be used for the module?

It appears you have an Ultima Programmable Ignition System which has replaced the factory unit referenced in your Service Manual? Your photo is a bit small so I can't make out the model number. See here http://www.ultimaproducts.com/programmableignition.html

I don't have any physical bike. And I don't have any access to any physical Harley out there I am modeling a Harley, though. And for crankshaft wire routing, I need help with the location of the Ignition module, cause that's where the wires go from the Crank position sensor, right? I don't know what's Ultima PIS. If you want any specific pic, please ask. The bike is Harley 883 sportster 2005.

This picture is not a 2005 motor. The 2005 does not have a breather on the side and looks completely different that this picture. This appears to be an old iron head motor

Abinhav,

The manual is correct for motorcycles that are stock as opposed to the photo you provided. I would think that if you are trying to create a 3D model of a Sportster you may be better served by asking your questions specific to that purpose? I don't know if you will get the answers you need here as this forum is about helping fellow bikers with the mechanics of Harley's and not drawing them. Try starting a new thread, introduce yourself and the purpose of your question(s) and go from there.

Best of luck!

A 2005 Sportster will not have a nosecone module. They use an Ignition Control Module, which would be likely up under the seat as the manual shows. The old nosecone area is now just gusseted and part of the cover casting. Nothing there.

I already did that. Do you know any specific forum for such? It would really help me. Although, the bike is nearly complete.

Thank you. That was bugging me cause I didn't want to miss any critical part.
