Hello guys and gals,

Please help.. i have a 1987 Sportster, has been sitting in a climate controlled basement since 1999. i recently got this running (was my late fathers bike)
now the tach bounces all over at idle or when running has went as high as 5,000 rpm's at idle.

what am i missing, it all worked fine when disassembled,headlight is inop are these connected??

 

Is the motor rmps increasing or just the tach needle moving?

 

No the motor idles fine, and yes at idle its anywhere from 2-5000 rpm at the tach.
