Default What are the common nightster problems

I'm looking into getting 2007-08 nightster and just wondering what the most common problems are with them? What should i check specifically when checking out the bike? Just want to make sure i check over everything before i get something that I'm going to have to dump some money in to fix it

thanks

Only issue I've had with my 07 is the distance between fuel stops is chronically too short and damn if this wasn't covered under warranty.

I really haven't had any problems with my Nightster, it has 5500miles and all i've had to do is regular maintenance. In a city environment it uses a lot of gas though, that might be the only problem with it.

Get it and enjoy it! plus they are not making it after 2011 so you would have a unique bike .

Check the fuse box for water intrusion.
I think that is the only issue.
There was also a recall or TSB on the fuel pump (in the gas tank) so see if it has been updated.

Otherwise standard Sportster issues. Critical fastener check, Rocker box leaks, battery cover clips, loose battery cables. I also recall that a major item to check are the screws in the throttle body. A loose screw can be ingested by the motor. A search on this forum will add insight to everyting listed in this response.

FWIW the Progessive Suspension fork springs are a must do upgrade.

1200Ns are a great do everything bike.

the only problem with mine is i neglected the clutch and it gave it to me lol.. if its slipping at highway speeds when you get on it it will probably need to be changed real soon. other than that no real problems.

*edit* other than seat and shocks the nightster cant be beat.

Yeah, they all look exactly alike, even after modifying them yourself... haha
