It's very steady. I have a 2007 so it doesn't show gear position. My guess would be no though since the gear is determined by reading the speed and RPM and then estimating the gear the bike is in. I don't know for sure though.

Did anyone find a copy of the pdf instructions for the tach and fuel sensor?
Or possibly scan a copy?

Looks awesome. Thanks do much for the details!!!

Quick questions.
1) I assume the R 154 is range?
2) it looks like there's not alot of real estate on the screen - where do they display the gear position, clock, trip od. Etc?
3) did I understand correctly that without the fuel sensor the old dummy light stays on? Was that only on the 2007 or all models?

... Maybe I should just go find the instructions.

1) You are correct.

2)Gear, not sure, don't have that on the '07. The clock and trip odometers are where the range is now. Cycles through them with the back button same as before.

3)Without the fuel level sensor I can confirm the fuel light stays on on the '07. HOWEVER, supposedly you can get the 'Fuel Sender Resistor kit' (part number 72545-08) for about $10 instead. I'm assuming since the instructions didn't state that the '08 up require the resistor kit that those bikes could just turn the fuel level off on the gauge and be fine.

I have the instructions and could scan them on Monday.

Do you recall how long it took to calibrate?

I'm assuming you're referring to the fuel range. It says:
"After the battery is reconnected or a new gauge is installed, the gauge requires about a half tank of fuel to properly initialize fuel range functionality.

During consumption of the first full tank of fuel, the gauge software will begin the process of learning your riding patters, eventually tailoring the fuel range calculations to your unique riding characteristics."
The speedometer doesn't need any type of calibration if that's what you were referring to. All you have to do is copy over the odometer data via the data port under the side cover.
