Nightster shocks are pretty short at 11 inches per Progressive Suspension's website. The stock shock length for the 99 is 13.5. That's a major drop without doing any other modifications.

the different length is most likely why he said they wont fit. With that kind of change, I'm guess the bike wont even stay upright on the jiffy stand.

tell him to buy a set of touring shocks off of ebay, or on here for around $100.

I think the jiffy stand length might be a factor.
When I installed a "profile low shock kit" on my kids 2001 xl883 , it came with 2" lower shocks and a new short jiffy stand.
I'm pretty sure they would fit , the stand would be too long.
That being said , I have 1997 Electra Glide shocks on mine , a couple washers/spacers were all that was needed to make it work.
Then my jiffy stand was too short ....

thanks guys, been trying to get him to go with the touring shocks like I had on my nightster BUT he doesn't want any part of it.. he has an ultra classic for his regular ride and this thing is just for bar hopping.. already added 18" apes, drag pipes and forwards are on way.. I told him just get some hardtail struts and a springer seat since its just a fun bike.. guess I need to work on him some more
