Question Question for Screamin Eagle Stage 1 Intake upgrade 2012 iron 883

Hello All,

I am sure this has been asked before but I wanted to ask anyways and hope I can be directed to the right thread or given the right info.

I just bought the bobber style stage 1 Screamin Eagle intake upgrade to go with my pipes on my 2012 iron 883.

What I want to know is can I do the remapping myself? I really do not want to waste money on having HD do the remapping. Any help would be great. As HD wants a little over 200.00 (150 for download and 50 to install) for the remapping which is outrageous in my eyes.

thank you in advance.

Well you can always use a xied instead of re-mapping, check out this LINK and you will see that they are really easy to use. Also a less expensive option and they are do it yourself.

With your bike being a 2012 883, they do better with the xied, they really like the extra 2% fuel mixture.

You sure can-all you have to do is buy a tuning device like a Power Comander or like wise. The dealer download is not good at all really, but they use a scantool/tuner to do it-that is how they get the new programing into the PCM. A HD race tuner does the same thing and PC is a piggy back unit that send a differant signal to the PCM to adjust the fuel. I advise you bypass the dealer download and get some sort of tuner. Sure it will cose more up front, but will be better for perfomance and future mods. Remember this is not a cheap hobby.

if you have the cash, you might want to invest in a tuner, there is a lot of info in this site regarding the choices. Believe me, you will get many opinions, I used the SEPST with smart tune and had great results, but you also have to buy the software and and cable to hook your pc to the ecm. the software comes with all the stage 1 and 2 downloads which you can then fine tune with the smarttune software.

If you are on a budget, as DK has pointed out, many people have had great success with the Xieds when just changing pipes and air cleaner.

Thank you for the info all. So if i go for the xied which looks like what id rather do. I notice it has an adjustment for the afr. If i just pulg it in a go will i be ok or will I have to fine tune the afr?

I am a newbie so I just want to make sure I dont jack up the bike in anyway.
