Default Sportster Winter Makeover

UPDATED 5/12/2014 ON PAGE 26 with some new mods and pictures.

Been wanting to do this for a couple of years.

Next month (hopefully) the 883 goes on the lift and does not come down until it is a different bike.

Will be documenting it with pics as I go.

Started life as a 09 883L, and have done a few things here and there over the last 3+ years.

Here it is the night I picked it up-

Here it is a couple months later...quite a few changes done here and there.

Here it is pretty much how it is today- (December 2012)

Edited to show how it looks today- (August 2013)

Shown on The Dragon in September 2016...quite a few more updates were made in August of 2016, check toward the end of this thread.

Am I predicting a great new 1250 kit as part of the transformation?

I'll be interested in your progress.

Here is a list of what I know I will be doing.

NRHS 1250 kit
Paint engine cases and covers
Engrave Derby and timing covers
Might be chroming the rocker covers
Custom 1-off 2-1 exhaust
PCV or PowerVision
Remove ammo can bags
Chop rear fender and mount to swingarm to get as close as possible, whether running struts or shocks
Outlaw Solo Seat System
Passenger pillion and shorter sissy bar
Remove engine guard
Highway pegs
Heel rests
Chop off brake pedal and replace with Trap
License Plate Relo to left side with STOP brake light
Mini-bullet turn signals
Remove windshield
Relocate Speedo
Lower front fender closer to tire
Remove headlight brow and relocate headlight
Paint Tins and Wheels, and rear pulley (have not decided what color or graphics)
Custom front pulley guard
Remove top & bottom belt guard
Lower rear of tank and redo wire tuck

I am open to any ideas, suggestions, thoughts.

This is my daily rider, so as soon as I get a different daily rider it is going on the lift. I hope that will be sometime in January.

Who's heel rests will you use?

Cams? Head work?

Would struts be comfortable for a daily rider?

You going to use the stock headlight bucket?

Keeping the bars you have?

DK is coming out with some shortly, utilizing the Trap peg...gonna use those.

Cams? Head work?

Nope, just the straight NRHS 1250 kit. Well, I do plan on polishing the heads.

Would struts be comfortable for a daily rider?

With the solo seat it might...if it is not for my 54 yo bones, I will put some shocks back on it. That is why I am mounting the fender to the swingarm, so I can keep the fender close no matter what I run.

You going to use the stock headlight bucket?

That is the plan right now.

Keeping the bars you have?

Yes, right now I have the HD mini-apes with 2.5" riser extensions. I may have to adjust the size of the riser extensions after the seat is installed to keep the handlebars where I need them for my bum shoulder.
Getting excited to get moving on this.

Excellent. I like your list.

You have a lot more experience with this kind of work than I did when I started but my advice is to stay open, take your time and have fun.

Good luck Kevin.

Hey man, your build thread, and how your bike turned out...that is one that I really followed with a lot of interest.

Yeah, it's gonna take some time...I am going to do it at home instead of the shop. That way I can go out an work on it when I have free time here and there. I keep pretty busy, am hoping it only takes 3 months or so.

Am chomping at the bit to get started. lol
