Back to the Sportster ranks.

Back to the Sportster ranks.
Been around here a while. Had a nice lil Dyna for a long time, before that some choppers and a sporty. Recently traded that Dyna for a couple choppers..sold one, got kinda tired of the other and didn't have the resources or initiative to make a project out of it. Enter Billdozer from Biltwell fame. He'd just finished up a re-do of a Chop Cult/Biltwell project bike called the EZXL. Transformed a plebian 99 1200 sportster custom into a sweet little tracker influenced ripper. I'm not gonna cover the build here, you can reference it over at the CC. Paths crossed and turns out we each had something the other was looking for. Him another chopper project and me a sweet little rider that needs only a rider. I'm not gonna change much, make it my own a little, definately some motor upgrades needs more power, probably the exhaust, maybe a tire swap and a brake upgrade. That actually sounds like alot now that I re-read it. Otherwise it's staying as is lol. Pics to follow

Hey shiftace...cool to see you over here on the Sportster side. Sorry to see your DX go...it was one of my favorites on the forum. I saw in one of your earlier posts that you said it was too big for you from the start. Could you elaborate on that a bit since I've been looking at moving up to a Dyna, but, I'm thinking it might be a bit big as well. I like your new ride and am looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Yeah I always felt "smallish" on it. Could have been all in my head though. I saw pics of myself on it and I looked fine. The bike was heavy, mostly top heavy and I never felt all that much confident whipping it around. I could have slammed the shocks and rode a tiny seat but that would have taken too much away from the setup of the bike. The sportster I had before it was setup almost identically and I could corral that bike like a bmx. This one is even lighter, more nimble and with the lower bars and better suspension works so much better than my last sporty. Fitting on a dyna, if you wanna run it at a somewhat normal ride height is best for a 32in inseam or more. Of course everyone is different, but due to the width of the frame my 29in inseam wasn't cutting it. Funny thing is this sporty is higher than the dyna but due to being so narrow it fits me great. And I've always dug your bike too, all white and chrome is super clean, wasn't it for sale a while back? I thought I remembered seeing an all white one like that.

That makes sense. I do want the bigger motor and the bigger bike, but, if I have to mod it with a super slim seat and slammed rear shocks it's not worth it...especially with how brutal the roads are around here. Being just under 5'-8" with a 31" inseam puts me on the brink of fitting the bike properly with the kind of set-up I'd want. Who knows......I've got at least another year before I'll be ready to pull the trigger, so, we'll see what happens.
Thanks for the kind words regarding my bike. I've never had it up for sale, but, I would let it go if the price was right. Haha.
I do remember your black Sportster...that thing was bad ***! Are you gonna do a fairing on this one or keep it stripped down?

At 5'7" and 27" inseam, I know what you mean--the stock height Dyna is challenging. I noticed the 100 lb difference right away, too. The Sportster's handling is noticeably better, around town. But the Dyna's a big, heavy bike and in a whole other league for covering miles on the freeway.
