Default First ride, first impression of my2013 xl1200c (+ pics)

My new bike was delivered to me last week with zero kms on the odo. Due to the weather it was impossible for them to do a full pre-delivery check due to the cold, the snow and the road salt.So it was delivered to my house in pristine condition without any confirmation that the whole package was 100% in riding condition. Lucky me as I kind of like that!

So today I came home early as the sun was shining, it was 12 degrees centigrade, the rain had washed away the road salt and why not do a quick first ride on a nice winter day? I geared up, pushed the bike out of my garage (heavier than my KTM 690...) and started the engine. It came to live with a roar. Those Cobra's are loud! I mean Harley loud. A deep thunder rolled across the street and I'm sure the neighbors now now the Ducati is gone and Harley's in...

First gear with a bit of a clunk. Not bad, solid feel. What I immediately noticed is the strong pull. Not KTM (or any other power bike) alike but strong and pleasant nevertheless. I also noticed that the the ergonomics are really OK for me. Mid controls, sitting straight up, looking over the wind shield, all felt perfect to me, already the first few meters. The rear shocks? As I expected. Not too good...

I only drove for about 8 kms but they were fun, revealing what's ahead as spring is around the corner (sort of...).

I promised you some sunshine pics, well, here they are!

I would make any changes with the suspension for at least a 1000 miles (whatever the hell that is in km's !!) just to let the shocks, gears etc. to break in...after they break in you may find you like them better..

Nice bike good choice in colors...

Thanks for the report... I like the mid glide front end... I just switched out my 21in for a 19in made a huge difference in how the bike handles.

You should be able to somewhat adjust the rear shocks...couple clicks might make the biggest difference... it did on the 2002 FXDP i just bought...

amazing looking bike man really flows together. and I agree to wait and let it break in some. Just like anything new it needs time to settle in
