Lost my only key...
I was out riding a friends bike last night and lost my only key to my 2002 Sportster. What should I do?

Go to dealership w/VIN & title/registration - they can reproduce w/VALID proof of ownership.

This is great if it is possible? I bought my bike a few months ago and only received 1 key, the dealer gave me a paper with a key number and told me to never lose it because it was the number to the key that starts my bike, he said in the event I lost my key I would need that number to have them order me another one, so that being said, I wonder if by giving them the vin and proof actually works? or if the poster will need to buy a new ignition?

You can always replace your ignition I would think, or do as Ice said.
I got 6 keys to mine, after having a faulty ignition replaced.
I think I'll be safe barring a natural disaster.

i wish it was that complicated.. i went to a dealer with the vin# off my bike scribbled on a piece of paper. they gave me the entire history of the bike, and ordered a new set of keys.. never showed a thing to prove i owned it..

I went to my dealer (I only had 1 key) gave them my registration so they coukd copy my vin and verify my name. 2 weeks later I had 2 brand new keys. Was under 20$, I think like 10$ from what I remember

that would be the best thing to do, if you replace the ignition/get new keys, a future owner wouldn't be able to use the VIN# to get a replacement.

Is it a FOB or just a key? If its just a key you can call a locksmith who can make a new one with an impression key
