Default chump bars

I have a 08 xl1200c with stock bars

Im looking for bars to be a little higher and a little closer to me then stock. I want to sit more uprite. My arms barley have a bend in them with stock bars. Do you guys think the chump bars will get me where I want? Do the chumps have more pullback then stock sporty bars? Thanks for any help

How much upright you want to sit? If its just a little bit, then rotating the stock handlebars to "pull them in" will do the trick. I have the same bike (2008 xl1200C) and have had old-school buckhorns on my bike for a few thousand miles now and they are the most comfortable handlebars I have ever used. Also many folks here are very happy with 8 or 10" high mini-apes from HD or other brands.

Whichever way you go, you will need to adjust the handlebars (read sit on the bike and rotate them front or back according to your height etc) though.

It is sort of common knowledge on this forum that chumps can be installed without extending any wires or replacing the brake line (if you bend the stock line). This is true, but it is very close. I ended up replacing the brake line because I wanted a new one anyway. My only regret was taking the advice of a couple people at J&P Cycles and going with a 46" brake line. 44" or 42" would have been fine and I plan on eventually replacing it. No big deal. A brake bleeding mini-vac is well worth the money as well.

I had to reroute the clutch cable and had to rework my wire tuck a bit, but overall it was a pretty easy job. I wouldn't call it a "one beer" mod as many claim, it was more like a 3 beer job. I guess it depends on how fast you drink. Much easier with a second pair of hands too.

My first step was to scuff up the chrome with a light sanding and some Scotch-Brite pads. I just like them better that way.

I love these bars. Best mod I have made so far. Many more changes still on the list.

As long as you like it...that's all that matters.

Did you scuff up the tank too...lol

Ride safe!

Sportsters had factory sprung seats and shocks for the first 15 years of their existence. My '63 had a factory solo seat with springs, most comfortable seat EVER.

I am stuck between the chumps and the keystone.

Anybody got an opinion of these? I really like the look of the Chumps too.

Just a personal opinion but I think the chumps really suit the 4.5 gallon tank, the 2.1 and 3.3 gallon suit the keystones.

Would anyone ever think that the original looked wrong? No of course not. The do not put a sprung saddle on a bike equipped with shocks comment I keep hearing on this forum is really silly.
