Default First oil change, newb question

Hey guys,i did my first oil change since owning my bike. Fairly easy job but here is my question. I used mobile 1 20w-50 and a fram oil filter ( closest hd dealer was about 2 hrs away) I read these filters aren't quite as good as hd and must be changed sooner, so with this setup I how long before my next oil change?

The fram fillter number is the only one I had written down, and didn't want to use fram either.. so I asked the guy at the parts counter what the K&N equivalent was and used that. The K&N also has a nut on the top of the filter so it's easy to get off. If I were you, I'd change it now. Especially if this is a new bike, you're going to get more than normal metal shavings out of your 1k and maybe 5k oil changes.. just my opinion.

probably wouldn't hurt to find a reasonable online hd parts dealer if you want to go the stock route. next time you can oorder the parts a week before you are ready to swap out oil.

did you use car oil or motorcycle oil????

i would never run car oil in a bike...it is not the same.

order harley oil and harley filter...or some people like the k&n...but either way you should be running the correct oil.

I use the k&n with the nut.
Makes removal real easy.
Hope that was mobile 1 20/50 VTwin oil.
All of this is available on amazon.com.
No need to visit a dealer.

Why not, Harley's don't need V-Twin oil in the motor.

V-Twin oil is specifically made for motorcycles with a single oil sump (supply), where the same oil lubes the motor, primary and tranny. V-Twin oil does not contain any friction modifiers because they are bad news for the clutch. But friction modifiers like molybdenum, are a good thing to have in the motor as it prevents cold start wear and tear before the oil pump gets the oil circulating.
