The R's a cool bike. If I were to buy another, it'd likely be an 883R. 04-06's are the best IMHO.

1200R has black engine, dual disk front brake, tach, and crome headlight cover, cast wheel, peanut tank
1200c has more chrome engine parts, forward controls, spoke front, rear disc wheel, larger tank

The 1200R also has a wider front tire than the 1200c as well.

The 1200R is also almost 2 inches higher (seat height) than the 1200 custom. And the 1200R has a tacometer.

1200R has black engine,
It has a black engine from 2006-2007. In 2004-2005 the engine was grey like the 883 engine.

Other than that the 1200R is a great deal with an MSRP of around $8500 and coming with a tach, dual disk brakes, cast wheels, and a taller suspension stock. It doesn't have a better engine than a custom though. The 1200R/1200C share the same engine and are capable of the same performance.

yes and no . same motor , but more ground clearence , triple disc brakes , and mid controls lend to a more aggresive riding style . will it matter to most of us I doubt it , but there are differences if you want to split hairs , although I have no hair so I cant split any thing
