Default 2006 883: What parts from other years fit? Wheels, tins, seats, etc

I just picked up a 2006 883 and was looking for some parts for it from other year Sportsters. What parts from other years will fit (bolt right up)? is it 2004 to 2006, or do other years also fit?

Wheels (I like the solid rear wheels)

Tins (gas tank, fenders, etc)

Handlebars (what size/diameter fit the 2006?)

Seats (depends on peanut or 4.5 gallon tank?)

Any other parts off the top of your heads

I have an 05 883 and I've never found a sportster seat that didn't fit my bike. However, I do have a peanut tank.

2004-2007 wheels(axle size)
2004-2006 tins (rubber mount & carb'd)
2004-current seats depending tank size I think?
all kinds of bars are swappable depending in the riser and control size you swap on it.

Yes, no difference from 1200 to 883 in the same year. Fuel injected gas tanks are different so stick with 04-06, wheels all pretty much work though you may need different bearings to match axle size. I have a 19 inch front wheel from an 07 on my 04.

There are a lot of parts that are direct swaps and some make take some encouragement. Rather than just trying to learn it all now I would just research a specific part when you find one to swap. However 04-06 should be all good on any part (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Axle sizes:
'08 and up 25mm
05-07 3/4" front 1" rear
8?-04 ¾” front and rear - However, taper bearings are used up to 1999 and ball bearings started in 2000.
Note that the '04 is the only year rubber mount that has a 3/4" rear axle. '04 has a swing-arm that was for that model year only (the axle adjusters are unique).

'07-'09 rear fenders have a cut-out in the passenger seat area for the ECM. '04-'06 and 2010 up are solid, no cut-out. Front fenders from before dirt was invented ('86 iirc) and up will fit, except fenders from a "48", which has a mid-glide width front end (as opposed to narrow-glide). I think the newer Custom models, 2011 and up, have a mid-glide, too.

The '04-'06 saddles have a pocket that accommodates the ICM which is located under the rider's butt. On '07-'09 Sportsters, the ECM is located in the rear fender. Those seats have the pocket in the seat pan positioned accordingly. The seats aren't bolt-on interchangeable from either direction. However, if you relocate the ICM on '04-'06 models, an '07 and up (including 2010 and up) will fit. I've heard stories about people placing them next to the battery or lowering the ICM in the frame, but I've never tried it. Saddles from 2010 and up don't need to have provisions for an ICM or an ECM because the ECM was moved out from under the saddle to a spot by the battery.
Aftermarket seats are a different ball game. Some have a pocket for both loctions, so one seat may fit '04 and up. Gas tank size is another variable to consider. Most saddles for the 3.3 glln tanks are longer than the 4.5 glln version, but if you peel back the seat cover and trim the front, they'll fit a 4.5 tank.
Here's a recent thread that has some pics showing the difference in the seat pan for the different years:
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...-the-same.html

Here's an example of the ICM relocated to the battery compartment using zip-ties (not my bike).

Have fun searching. The Classifieds section here on HDForums is a great place to look. I've had success on Craigslist, too.
