There is a good handful of 88" 90" builds on xlforum right now. I believe you need good head work and big cams to take full advantage of those builds

Hastings says they are to be used with Buell thunderstorm heads but sportster heads will work. You have to by stock sportster rods and they say the only other thing you need is that the case has to be bored for the bigger jugs. Stock cams should work but you are right, to take full advantage of the conversion new cams would be
needed.

Yeah, but I have always been kinda like Tim "TheToolMan" Taylor. Gotta give it more power. Besides a bigger bike is just a bigger bike. It may have a bigger motor but it won't handle like a sportster.

You're right it is not a weekend project. The kit cost around 950.00 and you have to buy rods separately. The case has to be machined for the larger cylinder so the engine has to be completely disassembled. But it's something to ponder.
Oh yeah, stop teasing the rabbit.

I'm glad you brought this up, I saw or heard someone else mention the 90" conversion for the 1200 but I didn't know how it was accomplished, thanks for educating me.

Consider if you are splitting the cases.....assembly, disassembly, everything comes out of the engine, Tran and primary. The 88" 90" motors put out some very good tq numbers too. A hoot to ride. A cheaper version with less power, but still up there is a hot 1250 build. No bottom end work required. You can have it done in A/V weekend and not break the bank.
