Actually as of this year if you use a moped or anything under 500cc you get a license for a 500cc bike or under. I only know because I took the test with a friend of mine on 1/2/13 and after renting a moped for the test we were told the law had change that day and the test was to be done on a full size bike.

Ohio has the Motorcycle Ohio program which will give you your endorsement. I am in the military took the MSF course at fort bragg and they accepted that to get my endorsement. http://www.motorcycle.ohio.gov/ . I took My basic rider course on a CBR600RR (had to provide your own bike for the army course) and the box was a beotch, I took the advance rider course on the sporty and the box was way easier.

I took it on my 48, passed the first time, the slalom was easiest the circle NOTE: you just need to keep the front tire in between the lines NOT the rear. My friend tried it and failed because he thought both tires needed to be within the line therefore causing him to be distracted and going out of the line altogether- His second attempt he passed.
If your a first time rider take the course classes if you have been riding for years save the money and do it at the DMV or Secretary of State (whatever they call it near you)

I also took the Motorcycle Safety Course and didn't have to do a driving test. I took the class in Ohio and it was valid for my West Virginia license. Also, I agree with black_iron. It was well worth a weekend of class. If I'm not mistaken, it's honored in most states. But for some reason it was $100 in West Virginia and $25 in Ohio.
