Bump. The reason I ask is it just seems like the pipes go to far up and would touch the engine guard.

I've been wondering the same thing. I have a similar Samson exhaust and I want to install an engine guard but kinda unsure whether it will fit with the heat shield being so far forward. I found one for under $100 on eBay and it should be here next week, we'll see then if it will actually work or not. Until then maybe someone will have more info or experience to share.

Ok let me know how everything turns out. My mustache guard doesn't come straight out to the side, but kind of angles forward toward the front tire a little. I'm hoping that's enough, but would hate to buy the exhaust without knowing first. The engine guard with the highway pegs make a huge difference in comfort on longer trips for me. I would hate to have to get rid of it.

By the way, what kind of Samsons do you have and how do you like them compared to others you've had?

I have the street sweepers. haven't had any other exhaust on the sporty, but as far as those go I love the way they sound and they are way better than the stock exhaust in every way.

How do the sharper right turns affect you? Do they scrape bad?

normal turning is fine but they do scrape on sharp right turns. it's not noticeable when looking at them on the bike, but you can feel where they scrape under the lower pipe. I'm used to scraping my pegs on my dyna so it really doesn't bother me much.

Ok it took a little while longer than I wanted but I finally was able to install an engine guard on the 883 with the Samson exhaust. It took a little finagling but It just fits. I've attached some pics for you to see. Hope this helps ya out.
