The verdict is out on my streetglide to sportster 48 swap.

I can ride tank to tank which is about 125 miles between fill ups without any discomfort *sore rear end* at all. Sundowner/Progressives make for a totally acceptable ride. Installing the low end Progressives helped a lot but like others have said Sportster's aren't luxury rides and weren't built to be.
Other than the most important fun factor of riding my Sporty, I can park it beside my cars in a 2 car garage in the winter. I couldn't fit a bagger without cleaning or tearing my workbench out. I can move it around about as easily as a bicycle, I can work on it as most everything is readily accessible. I've saved probably 5 grand that the stealer would charge doing all my own mods. I prefer 55mpg to 42mpg. Sometimes I wish I had more than 3.3 gals of gas but love the look of the tank.
Every time I go to the dealer I eye rape Street Glides and Road Kings but I never pull the trigger. My fun is taking the slow rolling twisty back roads. I'm nearly certain that no other HD can cut corners like the Sportster. I don't tour. I probably put around 300 miles a week on my bike from March to December if weather allows me. Though boring I can roll down the slab at 70mph for hours. There isn't much the Sportster cant do and for a lot less money.

I here you loud and clear when it comes to the fun factor of the Sportster. I just sold my Softail Deluxe because it was just a very boring ho hum bike. It looked nice but it was missing the character that the Sportster has (and the deep throaty sound). I'm back to one bike and it's the Sportster...with a carb I might add :-)

First - Welcome to the forums, I did the same almost - sold a 1340 then started looking for another bike - 3rd time buyer at my local HD dealer went in to get another bike as the sells person was working the numbers on another they had test riding going on, so I took the 48 out and within four blocks I was sold - went back to the HD dropped of their tester and bought the 48 - must say the Sale's guy was floored he tried his best to talk me out of it but I haven't looked back since LOVE THE BIKE - Funnest bike I have EVER owned!
