Battery tenders are 'intelligent' chargers, with some electronics built in to them, so they sense the level of charge in the battery and charge it accordingly. Once fully charged they will top up occasionally, as required, so they don't need to be managed by us! I have four of them.

That's common over here old chap! My last two bikes had them as well. We call them 'battery minders'.

+1 on the Tender Jr. I plug that dude in after the bike cools down all the time. You will get the absolute most out of a battery that way.

My 2007 1200 C did not come with a charge cable but, one came with the Battery Tender plus. I connected the positive wire to the plus on the Battery and negative wire on the ground lug near the starter. That has worked well for 6 years. About once a year I remove the cables from the battery and the ground lug, clean them and coat them with High Dialectric grease.

The Deltran Battery Tender is a fantastic device! I have three, one for each of my bikes, and I am still running the original battery on my 2005 XL1200R. My bikes pretty much have a tender connected December through April every year, and every year my battery tests like brand new. I swear by the battery tenders!

This looks pretty cool. Have a couple question though; is the ignition key supposed to be on while charging? How will this process impact on the alarm system? I have a 2007 HD Sportster Nightster. Tks in advance for your feedback.

The ignition key doesn't have to be 'on'. I have a 2007 883l and my charger had a 2 amp setting that I used. I attached the negative to the left foot peg. The alarm system wasn't affected.

My seat had to removed first only because those cheap clamps broke and my side cover is wired on.

I have since picked up a battery tender, they were on sale, at a Cycle Gear.

Back in post #15 I said that a pigtail came with the Battery Tender + and I installed it, this is somewhat embarrassing. When I installed a new V-Twin 310 CCA battery last March I found a pigtail tucked up under the seat. The 2007 being discussed should have one too.

So Doc. Brown, that means I ran around for about 7 years with two charging pigtails. My 1st confession of the year.

I just want to put a slow trickle charge in it. The positive side is fully exposed, but the negative is impossible to reach without figuring out how to remove the whole damn thing.

With that said, can I just hook up my charger to the positive side, and then the black wire to the frame, or does it not work like that?

Thanks in advance guys
I didnt check to see if someone has already said this but, check the right side of your bike in front of the oil tank /behind the rear cylinder... there may be a lead the with the tender pig tail...
