Petcock. What and where is it?
Where would i find the "Fuel Petcock" on a 1998 Sportster 883. And what is the function of the petcock?

It is on the bottom rear of the tank. It will have a hose attached to it.
It shuts off the gas turns on the reserve.
It is vacume operated so shuts off when the bike is not running so no need to touch it unless you need the reserve.

On left bottom of gas tank. It selects on, off, and reserve. On means gas flows to the card, off means no gas, reserve is for when you run low and the bike is sputtering. Generally reserve is around 1/3-1/2 gal.

Always good to turn off gas on the non-EFI bikes when you shut down for the night...

Thank you for the information, and the jokes. I truly appreciate both. I learn a lot from this forum
