1984 XR1000 Carb issue
Hi guys i am new to this forum and to Harleys, but want to learn!
I got this XR1000 that has sat for many years, but is in great shape..
I got Rebuild kits for the Delortos and all should have been good bit i went to
fire in and the Rear carb leaks like the Float is hung up..
Well back apart it comes, nothing i can see is wrong.. Float and needle valve
is working good.. I can blow in the inlet and shut off the air by moving the float up, i did this with the bowl on and off..
I can put it all together turn the carb upside down and the air shuts off like it should...
As soon as you turn on the fuel with the carb on the bike you hear bubbling
in the rear carb and then fuel pours out around the needle and needle jet..
I have Swapped all the parts off the carb that works with no help.
Swapped
Float
Needle Valve and seat
bowl
It seems to always stay with the body??
Any ideas? Seems so simple
Thanks
jake

Jake, you have an XR and didn't post pics?! We can't think about such exotic things in here without pics.....
Welcome to HDF from the UK. Flooding like that is normally due to the needle valve not shutting off. That can in turn be caused by the float not floating, perhaps its stuck? Another possibility is the float is bent so the fuel level comes higher than intended and gets out. A further possibility is a fault in the accelerator pump, although that is a long shot.
Unfortunately your model is probably the only production Harley that uses Dellorto carbs, so there won't be much experience here to draw on, unless we have a member with a secret!
I put Dellorto into Search and came up with just 34 posts in the entire history of HDF. I put in XR1000 and got a few more. It might be worth looking for a Ducati forum, to see if those chaps can help - they don't know any other carb!
