Default Ride with my 79 yr old grandpa and his sporty (72) (pics)

Today I got the pleasure to go for a ride with my 79yr old grandfather and his sportster 72. He has lung and bone cancer and this will most likely be our first and last ride together . He bought his 72 brand new last year and has not felt well to ride it much. He felt well, and I had day off so, I made the 200 mile round trip to get to their house. I battled 30 mph winds the whole way there and back. We went for a nice ride around Rathbun Lake in southern Iowa which is an awesome ride. One day and memory I will cherish forever.

His 2012 sportster 72

At Honey Creek resort for lunch

At the fish hatchery

Moments like those are priceless. Glad you made the time to spend time with him. Pretty sure you also made his day...

May you have more days like that with him. Family first.

Keepin' it in the family ... Great story ... cherish the time and save the pictures ... Hopefully your grandson will do the same one day.

That's pretty damn awesome. Those are the things you'll remember when you are 79.

Thanks guys. This man was like my father more than grandfather. I have rode his bikes for years. Since he got sick I have went down and rode his sporty for him just so he could see it move. I bought my own bike and this was the first plan I had after getting it. Go down and ride together before it's too late. Now I was able to finally do so and it was a good time. I do have one cool gpa. Always would let me take the corvette he had whenever I wanted. Flew with him in his plane for years before he sold it a few years ago. A man of many talents and always and adventure as a kid growing up. I would go with him to the bar, play cards and shoot pool, and I always got to drive home. Thats when I was 14 and had my learners permit of course.

Great pics and story. He sounds like a great gpa. Trips like that are the most important ones.
