What did you do to Your Sportster Today?
#3771
Nothing today. But tomorrow I ride. Gonna check my pipe connections. I used a lighter and got some flame movement from the back header gasket so I think I just need to tighten that up. Hopefully that'll solve the weird tone issue and maybe my 'bubbling' when decelerating at 2k and under.
Was planning on just loosening then retightening. Yes/no?

thanks i appreciate that. ive got an 06 sportster and my speedometer isnt working. it lights up and moves when i start it and i have a red key in the lower right corner that stays lit but doesnt read my speed? as far as i can tell everything else works fine. ive tried to check the codes but it wont go into diagnostic mode and i tried to reset the ecm by turning the key off and on three times but im not sure if that did anything either?

I have Rush and love them. What size baffles did you go with? I have 2" baffles and installed W158 TTIs.

I went with a can of DupliColor auto paint, whatever the generic Toyota black is, it was the only solid black (non-pearl/metallic) at the parts store then finished with 3 coats of DupliColor Acrylic Lacquer Gloss Clear. I was going to use the OEM Harley Vivid Black and the Harley Acrylic Clear but each can is $25, I did this with the DupliColor for $14 total and it looks great.

Took her for a 100 mile round trip, to my friend whos going to eventually paint the fender so the rear spots where the paint chipped off dont bleed into the rest of the fender.
Then I clay bar and waxed it, since I got sprayed with gas last time I filled up. I really am starting to note which stations around here have slower pumps and arnt hair triggers that blast fuel out of them... when I was 16 and worked at my local station, I always thought motorcycle guys were nuts, but now I see why were so cautious. Even being cautious you can get blasted with gas.
Filled up my MSR 0.6L reserve can too, which is actually where the blast occurred.
Then I read on the internets that some aluminum and water would remove rust from my exhaust and I tried it, and what do you know, it worked WONDERFULLY. Took a huge spot that had been growing since I tried to polish off some tar that got ground in, and made it disappear! I was really impressed, but now, do I need to do anything to protect it, or will this just cause the rust to come back over a bigger area?
and finally this weekend, I ordered my Metzler ME880 Ultras. Now I just need to find a place to install them. Dealer said ~$100 per tire to install + $7 for valve stems.
going to call the other dealer near me, and a couple of other cycle shops for quotes.
