Default Tachometer Fault

I bought a "rescue" 2000 XL1200 in the spring, got it up to working order and had a blast riding it all summer.

Sometime in August at a stoplight the electric tachometer began acting as if it was dropping the signal. Within a minute or so it quit working entirely.

I worked through the diagnostics in my Clymer guide and, from that, it would seem that the Ignition Module is the cause. The recommendation is to have a dealer run a test on the Scanalyzer ($$$) and replace the module if it is bad.

I thought I would ask the forum if anyone else has had this situation, is it common, and what their resolution was.

Thanks!
